Local Holiday Shopping: San Antonio edition

During the holidays it's a great time to support local businesses in town.  There are so many unique shops in our town and these are just a few of my favorites.

Broadway News

The Broadway News area has become a little mecca of shopping, along with food trucks to nosh while roaming.  La Casa Frida has wonderful items from Mexico, including jewelry and handbags.  Chiq'tique always has a curated selection of clothing and accessories.  Tillage Plants has an array of plants from small under $25 gifts.  Bexar Goods Co. has leather items including wallets, bags and watch straps.

Museum Shops

Most museum shops in town do not require admission, but will validate parking if you come in to shop.  My favorites are San Antonio Museum of Art, The Briscoe, and McNay Museum stores.  They offer so many unique items like books, jewelry, cooking items, etc.  For kids items the DoSeum and Witte have expansive stores where it is easy to find something for the littles.  If at a loss on what to buy someone, why not tickets or a membership as well?

St. Mary's Street Corridor

On St. Mary's Street there are some cute local shops opening up along the strip.  Plant Shoppe is a great place to find a hostess gift or gift for the home.  Montage Vintage has great t-shirts, jackets and hard to find sunglasses.  It's impossible to make it out of Feliz Modern without finding something.  Full of ornaments, and local style that can't be found anywhere else.

La Villita

As a local it's easy to forget about La Villita, but this area is full of artisans.  There are over 25 shops in this little complex along the river.  B. Link offers hand made jewelry and accessories, specializing in fine silver.  Bird and Pear has amazing home decor and pillows.  Capistrano Soap Company offers handcrafted luxury bodycare.  Villa Tesoros has women's and girl's apparel and accessories.  It's easy to spend a whole day in this area with great restaurants within walking distance.

Southtown

There are so many shops opening up in the Southtown area, many are localized in the Blue Star Complex.  Mockingbird Handprints has unique artwork and furniture.  Brick at Bluestar offers many night and weekend markets leading up to the holidays.  Bonus: they have adult beverages while shopping.  Augustine Atelier has vintage and regenerative fashion.  Up the road Southtown Vinyl has unique finds for the record collector, along with vintage posters.  Bohemian Gemme  has beautiful dresses and hair accessories.

Alamo Heights

This area is full of different options, but a great stop is Central Market. They always have ready made baskets, or plenty of unique items to make your own gift baskets.  A huge selection of beer and wine, along with one of the largest cheese selections in the city.  Sloan-Hall has the most unique greeting cards along with hard to find perfumes and colognes from overseas.  Memory Lane Monograms and Gifts offers embroidery on most items for a one of a kind item.  Nowhere Bookshop has all kinds of books along with quirky gift items.

These are just a few of the locally owned shops that offer so many unique items.  If you are able to shop locally this holiday season small businesses will greatly appreciate it!
